FILIZ BOZKUŞ AL (TR)

GONG Sahne (TR)

Filiz Bozkuş Al, born in the USA, has lived in Turkey since early childhood. She graduated from Middle East Technical University (METU/ODTU) with a degree in Philosophy and was actively involved in theater during her university years as part of the ODTU Players. In 2011, she co-founded Boş Sahne in Istanbul, where she adapted works by Ursula K. Le Guin and Franz Kafka into solo performances.

A pivotal moment in her career came after attending a workshop with Iida Shigemi, a key figure in Butoh dance, which shaped her artistic approach. From 2011 to 2014, she worked as Shigemi’s assistant, organizing workshops and performing internationally. Her artistic focus combines theater and dance, with an emphasis on the integration of body, mind, and soul.

In 2022, she premiered the theatrical dance performance GONG, co-created with her husband, Kerem Al, and was awarded "Actress of the Year" by the Özdemir Nutku Aegean Theater Union in 2023. Bozkuş Al continues to explore physical-dance theater through GONG Sahne, a platform she co-founded, and leads Mikusano Mitakara workshops inspired by her work in Butoh.
